Her first installment it below and we hope you enjoy!

Country Club Estates is a triangular-shaped neighborhood nestled between Scarborough St., State St. and Silver Lake in the seaside resort town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This clean, well-kept neighborhood has a Tot Lot playground on its south side, as well as a foot bridge leading across Silver Lake to Rehoboth Elementary School. A favorite activity for children and grandparents alike is to stop half-way across the bridge to feed the ducks, geese and water turtles which make the lake their home.

The name, Country Club Estates, derives from the land’s previous life as a golf course. In the early 1970’s, the country club was subdivided into 328, 50′x100′ lots and the parcel where the Scarborough Village townhouses now stand. This newer neighborhood provides some of the best property values this close to the beach. At 3-6 blocks from the ocean, it is still within walking distance of the award-winning Rehoboth boardwalk (http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/beach2003/2003-10-08-best-boardwalks_x.htm), and downtown Rehoboth Beach (http://www.rehoboth.com/). Because of its favorable location East of Rt. 1 and more reasonable prices, Country Club Estates is experiencing a renaissance of its own as people buy the original modular or stick-built homes (often 3 bedroom/2 bath) and renovate or rebuild.

Currently (as of July 27, 2009), there are 7 homes for sale in Country Club Estates, ranging from a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhouse in Scarborough Village priced at $425,000, to a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath Southern Plantation style home yet to be built, listed at $1,249,000. One of the best values in this community is the Debbie Reed Team listing on Sandalwood St.–a 3 bedrom/2 bath rancher with a sunroom, split floor plan, fireplace, huge laundry room and lovely landscaping, listed at $579,000. Just a few blocks, and you’ll be sticking your umbrella in the sand from this convenient location.

So, if you are looking for a great value within walking distance of the beach in the low-tax state of Delaware, Country Club Estates should be on your list of areas to consider. If you are not currently working with an agent, please call The Debbie Reed Team (302-227-3818), and one of our buyers’ agents will be happy to assist you, or log onto our website (www.debbiereed.com) to see the great homes available in Country Club Estates or anywhere in Coastal Delaware.

I went to the Fair Thursday night, opening night, in search of a colorful ribbon and tasty Fair Food. A ribbon for me was not to be found, but there were plenty of other sights, sounds, smells and wonders to make up for it!

A view of the State Fair by Dianne Deming….

It’s the fourth weekend in July, and in Delaware you know what that means…..The Delaware State Fair! I went to the Fair Thursday night, opening night, in search of a colorful ribbon on the quilted wall hanging I had entered, and tasty Fair Food. A ribbon for me was not to be found (my quilt suffered from too many technical difficulties, I fear), but there were plenty of other sights, sounds, smells and wonders to make up for it, including a delicious roasted chicken platter served up by the ladies at the Grange Hall.

Usually the weather Fair Weekend is beastly hot and humid. The mild summer we’ve had so far might be a few degrees too cool for beach warriors, but it makes for mighty fine Fair weather. So on this perfectly pleasant evening, I saw a cabbage the size of a beefy man’s head, smelled the sweet aroma of a wall of hay, experienced the happy energy of the Midway, sympathized with a number of tethered animals who looked as if they missed their pastures, and even took in a rodeo. All was topped off with a dish of Apple Chips–apple wedges drenched in hot, melty caramel.

The Fair runs through Saturday night. There are shows at the grandstand, 4H exhibits, games and rides and delicious, tasty things to eat. To learn more, go to the website at www.delawarestatefair.com. Have fun!

With All Best Wishes,
